Jack Bruce and Robin Trower have released a new album together. “Seven Moons” is now available from V-12 Records, which was just released on January 8th. amazon.com has glowing reviews about the new album, which is the third collaboration between these two rock legends. I liked the samples I’ve [...]
Space Trader Merchant Marine REPACK-SKIDROW Group SKIDROW released a REPACK of their own release of first person shooter Space Trader: Merchant Marine. The previous version didn’t work, as it’s a game distributed through Steam and the sceners forgot to remove it. Everything should be fixed now, but don’t expect too much, it’s a rather simple game. As in case of almost every SKIDROW’s release, there’s no crack needed to play.In the far future, humanity is ruled by The Ministry of Accounts, an

I read this as an assignment in college many years ago. The class was Humanities taught by Dr. Ralph Cole. Dr. Cole had more influence on me than anyone besides my father. I went back to my college years later just to let Dr. Cole know how much I appreciated someone like him in the world to teach young people. Unfortunately, he had passed away. I liked this story so much because I had a similar experience as the reverend. The Man Who Saw Through Heaven Wilbur D. Steele Since the
After a bleak (well, for me anyways) one-week hiatus, The Girls Next Door were back this week with an episode jam-packed with everything we've come to know and love about this show: Coked-out naked bimbos, inexplicable travel, and elderly discrimination. Sigh, welcome back my loves. All old people are welcome here. Especially filthy rich ones. And get this - it's not just any episode. It's part one of a two (or three?) part episode series. Thank you, GND producers. Halfway through the
Recently I asked the Owners/Crew of s/v Three Moons, Randy and Shelly, to write down their observations of what happens with a charter guest as they enter into the unfamiliar experience of a Caribbean charter yacht vacation. Enjoy their response to my question. So, let’s see if we can get into the mind of a first time charter yacht guest. “I wonder if I will get sea sick during this vacation on a boat? How much sunscreen will I need? Will I really like being in such a small space for a wee
Astronomers Have the Images to Prove It Astronomers are always on the hunt for planets in new and wonderful ways. The most productive method has been to locate planets around other stars by looking for their gravitational influence on a star’s light. That method results in interesting spectral plots (graphs), but doesn’t give you an image to look at. As Bruce Macintosh of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory recently put it, “When astronomers discover new planets around a star, all we see
When it comes to ratings, most media (including this site) report Total People figures rather than Demographics. As we all know, it’s Demos that particularly interest advertisers. Unfortunately no one network supplies ratings figures to media with comprehensive Total and Demographic figures with show titles. Logically, they report figures that best reflect their target audience, along with lots of creativity and lovely adjectives to accompany them. Nine sends out the top ten daily shows for
When Kyle Vincent released his eponymous album on Hollywood Records in 1997, it looked for all the world that, after spending over a decade on a quest to earn himself a Billboard Top 100 hit, he was about to bring a dream to fruition. Unfortunately, that did not prove to be the case, but he made enough of an impact with the album’s single, “Wake Me Up (When The World’s Worth Waking Up For),” to show up on the radar of quite a few pop fans…including me. (Like you didn’t see that revelation com
The Kuiper belt is strange. Most of this strangeness probably comes from the fact that we are only just beginning to uncover this mysterious region of the Solar System. Unlike the Oort Cloud which (possibly) lies beyond 3 × 1012 km away (over 20,000 AU, or a whopping 0.3 light years), we can actually observe the objects inside the Kuiper belt as, compared to the Oort Cloud, the Kuiper belt is on our interplanetary doorstep. But that doesn’t mean it’s close. The Kuiper belt exists in a region
Jacques Piccard has died. I remember reading about his exploits in the Trieste when I was quite small (maybe there was something in the Eagle, or perhaps a Readers Digest piece). Like most small boys I loved the idea of superlatives, of going deeper than anyone had gone or (as far as we know) could go. And at a time when space exploration had barely begun, Piccard and Walsh had explored the most alien environment ever visited. One could argue that that is still the case, in terms of actual human
Poetry does not have a lot going for itself these days – it needs all the help it can get – so when the postman arrived with a package and it wasn’t my eagerly expected new hard drive I can’t pretend I wasn’t disappointed that it was only a book of poetry and one I hadn’t ordered personally, i.e. a review copy. Me being me of course I then felt guilty for feeling that way so I had that to overcome too. And then there was the presentation, which was nice, don’t get me wrong, but it was also a lit
I am trying to give you, and myself, enough to look at rather than the endless election coverage. Frozen mice cloned — woolly mammoths next? How to write fast! (Internet review of science fiction, registration may be required) A new kind of pulsar, the gamma-ray pulsar. Cassini to look for evidence of life on one of Saturn’s moons (not Titan). A new subatomic particle (not from the LHC)? An ion shield for your interplanetary spacecraft. Garth Ennis series “Preacher” and “The Boys” may
November 3, 2008 (or how I learned to stop worrying and love being a fanboy) Honestly, I cannot artfully explain why I love this movie, and why it is continually placed in my pantheon of all-time favorites. But I’m gonna try. Last night I made Kyle watch “Flash Gordon”. He’d never seen it before. ***record scratch*** I know, right? How could he be of my, erm… ”vintage” and MISSED this movie?? But somehow he had, and we rectified this dreadful oversite on Sunday evening. He didn’t like it
Four months in and we're already up to 379 books!Congrats to Historia for reading yet another 13 books (this time for a single author approach), as well as to Steve and JK for reaching 13. Well done! Welcome as well to newcomers Heather, Laurie, Wayne, Mark and Carla. Here are the standings so far (* indicates a new review). Some highlights this month include a barrage of Lucy Maud Montgomery books (thanks to Becky who reviewed 6 and 3M who read 1), one of my personal favourites, Barney's Version

The upside of being sick for nearly a week is that, even though I haven't been to the gym in many moons, when I hopped on the scale this morning it read 307. That's 14 pounds down from my pre-Adipex weight and 19 pounds down from my heaviest weight this year. Although I don't personally recommend this particular method of weight loss (Tossing your cookies several times each day for a week? Not so fun.) I'm pleased to see it didn't result in some sort of freakish post-flu gain.Hooray for 307!Onl
Many moons ago (actually, about seven months ago), yours truly was a proud resident of the Pacific Northwest. I was marooned in the NFL hinterlands, in a strange place where I typically had to be at a bar by 9:30 am if I wanted to get a seat for Birds games on Sundays. In a lot of ways, being so far away from Philly was what got me motivated to start doing BountyBowl, but hey, that’s for another time when we’re sharing lengthy stories about our needs and/ or feelings. The important thing rig
Ponca City, We love you writes "The New rocket technician has an amusing story about the seven greatest scientific hoaxes of all time. Of course, there have been serious cases of scientific fraud, such as the stem cell researchers newly found guilty of falsifying data, and the South Korean cloning fraud, but the hoaxes selected point more to human gullibility than malevolence and include the Piltdown Man (constructed from a medieval human cranium); a ten-foot "petrified man" dug up on a small f
