It did not take long for the firing of Scott Weiland from Velvet Underground to turn into an announcement that the Stone Temple Pilots have put together a North American 65 city tour.
The Tour will kick off at Rock On The Range Festival in Columbus, OH on May 17. Check the Ticketmaster website for [...]

Gibson no Guitar Hero?

We’ve read several confusing and conflicting reports about Gibson Guitars suing over the patent regarding the Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games. The timing seems suspicious. Is it that these huge corporations waited until they saw the huge profits coming in from the overwhelming popularity of these games?
Finally we came [...]

Zippers from Yesteryear

Doesn't Google Image Search the most random, unsystematic tool in the world despite its word counterpart being SO systematic... the stuff it brings up never ceases to make me chortle (I'm sure everyone's played the Google Image your own name game when bored in the office...). When using Google Images to find some bits and bobs for a digi-collage, I came across these shoes that are quite simply zipper mad. Where can I buy them? Where has this image come from? How soon can I get my feet encru

HP Touchsmart Tx2 Multi-Touch Consumer Notebook Hands-On

HP just announced the TouchSmart tx2, the company’s very first multi-touch convertible notebook for consumers.  I had a chance to meet with HP earlier today to demo out the TouchSmart tx2 as well as a walk through by Kevin Wentzel, HP’s Technical Marketing Manager for the Mobility Global Business unit.  I like what I saw so far, especially considering this is only version 1.0. The TouchSmart tx2 has a WXGA 12.1-inch, multi-touch glass display with capacitive touch featuring N-Trig’s DuoSense t

Detroit’s Pathetic Three…

…follow their top idol, the International Beggar, and get down in the preferred position to perform fellatio (Big 3 carmakers beg for $25 billion as aid stalls; AP). Pathetic, there is no other word to describe what happens with the automotive industry and in the socialist camp. They have mismanaged their companies and now they get what they deserve…failure and just because they have amassed a huge workforce, in order to meet the ‘Too Big to Fail’ criterion, does not mean they have to keep the

Rim Planning Didiom-Based Mobile Music Service?

RIM could be preparing to launch a music streaming service based on Didiom, according to our latest tip.  Didiom is both a music marketplace, which offers on-device downloads, and a way of streaming tracks from a user’s iTunes library direct to their handset.  The company already has a number of client apps for different devices, but according to our source this would be a Didiom-powered collaboration with RIM. Verizon Botched ‘private Sale’ Frustrates Would-Be Storm Buyers

Verizon Wireless seem to have taken what should’ve been a glittering device launch and turned it into a whole lot of ill-will, only made worse by the fact that it’s their “most valued customers” that they’ve frustrated.  The carrier distributed flyers inviting said-customers to attend a Private Sale from November 17th to the 21st, plastered with images of the BlackBerry Storm 9530 and the tagline “Introducing the BlackBerry Storm”.  Cue interested would-be buyers turning up at stores with flyer

The Books of the States: Wisconsin (10 electoral votes; Guest: Daphne Beal)

Daphne Beal may live in New York City, and she may have written her first novel, In the Land of No Right Angles, about American ex-pats in Nepal and India, but her essay on her home state of Wisconsin for State by State is one of the most lived-in pieces in the book, full of everyday details that carry the tug of things left behind (and remembered more exactly because of it). Here’s a sample: After the smokestacks and the cabbage fields came my grandparents’ house of hushedness–sta

Yahoo!’s CEO faces reality; Citigroup continues to lose weight

It may be a bit too late…No, it is too late but better late than never (Yahoo’s fate riding on Yang’s successor as CEO; AP). What took this long amid a serious of management missteps? Ignorance…pure breed ignorance mixed with an unhealthy serving of greed! $33 per share was not good enough but now, with a share price of below $10 per share, even $20 looks like a great deal. In the middle of a plan to leave the country altogether, NYAG Cuomo pleas, urges or suggests Citigroup executives shou

Could our Nuggets be the NBA's version of "Major League"?...

After watching the Nuggets beat the Not-Your-Father's-Spurs in San Antonio tonight, I was trying to think of the last time a professional sports team had been gutted by management, dissed by the national media and yet proved the naysayers wrong. Nothing immediately came to mind other than the 1989 hit baseball movie "Major League." Admittedly, this comparison is quite a stretch, but it's fun to consider nonetheless (this is what happens when yours truly turns in his post-game blog column north

Fears over US economy weaken world markets

The increasingly precarious state of the US economy sent stockmarkets into retreat today as Asian markets closed sharply down, with Japan's Nikkei benchmark index falling almost 7%. Shares also tumbled in Hong Kong, South Korea and Australia following another plunge overnight on Wall Street, where fears of recession sent the Dow Jones industrial average down 427 points, or just over 5%, to its lowest level for five years. Britain's FTSE 100 index was down 90 points at 3915.73 in early trading -

Album Review: Guns N' Roses - 'Chinese Democracy'

'Chinese Democracy' (Interscope), the first album of original tracks from Guns N’ Roses since 1991, debuted last night on the band's MySpace page. Axl Rose-fronted band has already released two tracks off 'Chinese' to radio - the album's title track, as well as 'Better,' in the last few weeks. But last night was the first time the entire album was available for streaming - well, legally, at least. Album is due out Sunday, Nov. 23, and will be available exclusively at Best Buy. God of War: Chains of Olympus Review

Time to review a game for the PSP and that game is God of War: Chains of Olympus. Chains of Olympus is a prequel game to the first God of War game that came out for the PS2 a while back. Now this is the first time I’m playing a God of War game and I have to say it feels like I’m playing a game like Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden. This game is a hack and slash adventure game and you use other powers that you collect on your way. This game is about Kratos and the events that lead up to the first

I finally did it!

I finally, FINALLY managed to get a good open crumb! I bake my 100% WW sandwich bread (5 loaves at a time of it) every week, and I think my problem with too dense a crumb is overhandling, and under kneading. That said, I *finally* managed what I consider a nice, open crumb, for the first time EVER. I started a couple of years ago trying to do a basic french, and I've had nothing but sandwich bread crumb. Tasty, but not what I was after. I decided to try a sourdough again (wild yeast
