It was the Tom Petty Halftime show, with all the hits the Heartbreakers can fit into a 12 minute segment. That turned out to be four songs, with a little editing by the band. “American Girl, I Won’t Back Down, Free Fallin’ and Runnin’ Down A Dream.”
Amazing work by those invisible stage hands, [...]
Tom Petty is doing the Halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl. Let’s see, since 2000 we’ve seen and heard Aerosmith, ‘N Sync, Sting, Jessica Simpson, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones and Prince. The super bowl activities committee is on a roll.
And which songs do you think they will [...]
(updated below - Update II) On his live MSNBC show this morning, former GOP Rep. Joe Scarborough used the phrase "fuck you" when discussing Obama's appointment of Rahm Emanuel: I personally couldn't care any less about that. But Joe Scarborough, in the past, not only claimed to care about such things, but has been one of the most zealous crusaders against such awful filth on television. Scarborough led the lynch mob over the 2004 Janet Jackson halftime show on CBS -- demanding tha
(Scott Allen writes for Raising Zona, which is FSB’s Arizona Cardinals blog. Representing the rest of the NFC West are 12th Man Rising, Niner Noise. and Ramblin’ Fan.) The NFC West is possibly one week away from being won by the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals need to defeat the defending champion New York Giants and San Francisco needs to lose in Dallas. First thing is first though. Arizona put to rest a four game losing streak in Seattle and San Francisco gave interim coach Mike Singleta
Bruce Springsteen will release a new studio album, Working on a Dream, January 27th on his longtime label Columbia Records. The set features 12 new songs, plus two additional bonus tracks, and was recorded with the E Street Band and produced and mixed by Brendan O’Brien in his fourth collaboration with The Boss. Springsteen said in statement: “Towards the end of recording Magic, excited by the return to pop production sounds, I continued writing. When my friend, producer Brendan O’Brien, heard
When we were kids we were always trying to get away with cussing, or faking our parents into thinking we were cussing. One of my favorites was the football chant, "Rah, rah, ree, kick 'em in the knee, rah rah rass, kick em...in the other knee." Since it's fall and the fronds are (not) falling off the palm trees, time and attention turn to football and that great American pastime, talking trash about other people's teams and listening to Bud Light's "Real Men Of Genius" commercials. When I wa
It'll be out the Tuesday before he plays the halftime show at the 2009 Super Bowl. Billboard has some details (like Brendan O'Brien produced again).
Bruce Springsteen has confirmed that a new album, Working on a Dream, is set for released on January 27, one week after Barack Obama’s inauguration. As I noted before, Springsteen debuted the title song at a Nov. 2 Obama rally in Cleveland and dedicated it to Obama. It also comes just five days before Bruce and the E Street Band play the Super Bowl halftime show. (Ninety seconds of the song aired during the halftime highlights on last night’s Sunday Night Football on NBC.) The album, recorded
Bruce Springsteen Announces New Album By Dave Itzkoff Bruce Springsteen with Gary Tallent, left, of the E. Street Band at Madison Square Garden in 2007. (Chang W. Lee/The New York Times) It’s a dream come true for fans of Bruce Springsteen: the blue-collar bard of Asbury Park, N.J., will release his newest album, “Working on a Dream,” on Jan. 27, days before he plays the Super Bowl halftime show, his publicist said in a press release. The new album, recorded with the E Street Band, will be
Hot off the debut of the studio version of the album’s title track on Sunday Night Football last night, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band are ready to talk specifics about their forthcoming album, Working on a Dream. Let me pause for a moment so we can all soak that in. Just 16 months after the release of the critically acclaimed Magic, the Boss and his E Street Band are ready to give it another go. On January 27th, Springsteen will release the 12-track, Brendan O’Brien-produced Worki
It's hard to believe now that the special guest for the 1970 Super Bowl halftime show was Carol "Hello, Dolly!" Channing. In 1977, the halftime song was "It's a Small World (After All)." And twice in the early 1980s, the feel-good troupe Up With People provided the entertainment. My, how far we've come.

Songwriters: George Ducas and David Lee Murphy. A lot has changed in country music since George Ducas charted his sole top ten single in 1994. Traditional stalwarts Travis Tritt, the Judds, Clint Black and Tanya Tucker headlined the Super Bowl halftime show. Vince Gill didn’t just host the CMAs, he racked up Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year honors. Heck, even Joe Diffie was still getting airplay. We could wax unpoetic for days on the current state of country music and its sickened a
I typically don’t think power rankings are a very useful handicapping tool, as almost every team is vulnerable in certain situations. However, I think that the average person doing NFL betting should be aware of which teams are the best and worst in the league. The best teams are capable of beating any team in the league, especially as an underdog. New York is coming off of two straight outright underdog wins, Pittsburgh has won several games this season as an underdog, and Tennessee is still
Joe Scarborough: Hoisted by his own sanctimonious petard: Via Salon: Glenn Greenwald (updated below - Update II) On his live MSNBC show this morning, former GOP Rep. Joe Scarborough used the phrase "fuck you" when discussing Obama's appointment of Rahm Emanuel: I personally couldn't care any less about that. Story: The song will be set to NFL highlights and played at halftime during Sunday's game between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins. It was previously announced Springsteen and the E Street Band are to perform in the "Bridgestone Super Bowl XLIII Halftime Show" on NBC at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Feb. 1.

Former GOP Congressman and now cable TV commentator Joe Scarborough has a long history of fighting against obscene words on TV. In 2003, Scarborough was incensed that the FCC refused to impose fines on ABC when Bono used “the F word” during a live broadcast of the Golden Globe Awards. Scarborough even claimed that because of his proper upbringing he didn’t use such words. In 2006, Scarborough hosted a show that attacked Barbra Streisand for using the F word when speaking about President Bush.
When Eli Manning’s pass was tipped into the air and intercepted on the first drive of the game against the Eagles, I had flashbacks of Week 5 against Cleveland. But after the Eagles got into the end zone thanks to some generous field position, the Giants got the ball back, put up a seven spot and never looked back. After the shaky start Eli found his groove and went 17 for 31 with 191 yards and two touchdowns in the game with only the one pick. He had some help from Brandon Jacobs who ran for
Huge scoop of NFL Sunday November 9, 2008 What on earth was Andy Reid thinking with those two running plays? Almost coached like someone looking to lose his gig. The Giants were unstoppable -- when they could hold the ball -- and they still let the Eagles in the game until the final two minutes. It is only a matter of time before someone starts writing or talking about a possible Giants-Jets Super Bowl with an entire New Jersey flavor given Bruce Springsteen as the halftime act. Those thoug

The altruist in me wants to believe that the next Bruce Springsteen album - or at least a single - will be in stores and online in time for the Jan. 20 inauguration of Barack Obama. That sounds like a perfect alignment, an organic connection between an artistic leader and a political one, especially when one considers that the Boss debuted "Workin' on a Dream" at an Obama rally on Sunday. But business tends to weigh heavier than sentiment in these matters and it's much more likely that the Sp
