by vivrant thang on dresden soul symphony I am truly slipping on my stanning duties. I saw that Bilal was going to be in Germany back in April of this year. However, I had no idea that he had joined Dwele, Tweet, and underrated German female soul singer Joy Denalane for the Dresden Soul Symphony concert, where they performed classic soul hits backed by the MDR Symphony Orchestra. The concert was broken up into four movements which included some of my favorite classic soul hits such as: (You Ma

Election obsession fever has got me good (but it’s socially acceptable this time around, so I’m OK), so I was looking for a YouTube clip to fill time rather than actually blogging. I came up with this cool YouTube of Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye, always a good cheerer-upper despite the sad fates of both the singers. But somehow that got me thinking TV-related thoughts, about the way music is used in television, or should be used. Look at the clip and then I’ll continue with my thoughts. (The
This is something a little bit special today. "I Cried" by Tammi Montgomery was a single in 1963. Tammi was 18 years old and signed to James Brown's Try Me label. This song was her only release for the label. You can hear James Brown all over it, the backing track is pretty much note for note one of his more famous ballads. I'll leave you to work out which one. It's a beautiful track though, with an amazing vocal, and the gorgeous flute parts just send shivers down my spine. It's even more spe
Look what the Hitchcock Blonde bought me! It's a most wonderful Viviennne Westwood bracelet rendered even more lovely by a silver owl charm, and another one that says 'WOO ME'. How fantastic is that? (No consumer item more perfect for me since I got this on a baseball shirt). So you can see that I'm awfully pleased that the HB and Louche are an item; she's Quality Girlfriend Material, she is. I wore said jewellery to lunch with my chum N in Banners' today, which I nearly was very late for, due

We went here for a late lunch today, my colleagues and I. We were the only customers there, and as we sat by a fake real fire, Motown classics played in the background and warmed me from inside. I was reminded of how much I love Marvin and Tammi especially. How good does this make you feel? Copyright Clair Woodward 2006 - 2008
Two heads are always better than one. These famous duos have made their mark in music history. Be it, there timeless love songs or their magical combination, these duos could do no wrong in our eyes. John Legend: I'm Your Puppet From Soul Men Soundtrack (Stax, 2008) Seal: Change Gonna Come From Soul (Warner Bros, 2008) Soul Men has a dubious history behind it considering that it stars both Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes. Plus, judging from the trailer, it looks like the Black version of Blues Brothers...but not necessarily destined to be a classic. For the film, Stax commissioned a slew of folks to record both new songs and covers of classic soul tunes, including "I'm Your Puppet" by the Puri
