It’s funny how we find new music. I was talking to my brother and he had just been listening to a new young band by the name of “At Cliffs End”.
His daughter knows the drummer, who just happened to drop by the other night. So they were hanging out and talking, checking out [...]
With my recent ordeal, I'm now driving a rental vehicle (which I like so much, it's actually made my final four selection for new cars). The only problem is that I picked it up in KC and have to drop it off in Des Moines. This means a drop off fee, which the insurance company doesn't cover (note to everybody out there negotiating auto insurance... make the insurance company cover drop off fees between cities). This whole issue of logistics has been weighing on my mind recently, as I've cont
To be eco friendly does not necessarily mean that you have to be hip and young, because some people have been living the green life for some years. In fact gran Joan Pick aged sixty seven from Croydon in London, has been green for almost forty years, in those early days you can just imagine what she would have had to put up with. For some she may have been nuisance collecting and recycling everything that she has ever had, but this is not all, for most of the time she has not used a fr
It might be because we’re concerned with how others see us that we are always checking our reflection in a mirror. Naturally you’d be justifiably horrified to walk out of a lunch date to then find that the entire time you smiled with self-confidence you’ve had a piece of spinach (why is it always spinach used as an example - who eats that much spinach?!) surreptitiously stuck in your otherwise perfect and artificially whitened teeth. That would embarrass anyone - even Gwyneth. But sometimes we
Winona Ryder was rushed to the hospital on arrival at Heathrow after what was believed to be an accidental overdose of tranquillisers. She was taken to Hillingdon hospital, in West London, soon after arriving in England just after noon. Winona is known to hate flying and she is thought to have collapsed twice on Flight 282 after taking too many Xantax pills, which are used to combat anxiety. Although her publicist refused to confirm the nature of the star’s illness last night, she said h
Flashback of the week pt 4 Posted by Promoe, November 20th, 2008 The year was 2000, we were going to do a show at the Roskilde festival in Denmark - and we had huge expectations. ‘Modern Day City Symphony’ had dropped in April that same year and we had been building a buzz on the scene since 96 really - and now we were ready to hit the big stages! The crowd was ready too! There were a lot of people in the tent that night, and although there were other hiphop acts from Sweden and the
Yesterday was a bad day for democracy and a bad day for Salford City Council taxpayers. Both the called-in decisions - on the pink rink and LIFE in Salford magazine - were rammed through on the Labour whip. Dissent was not tolerated. The net result is that when the Council budget is tight and residents are tightening their belts, our Labour leadership is blowing £150000 of taxpayers money on the ice rink and another six-figure sum on increasing the Council’s propaganda output. Councillor Jane

Fixing Mistakes at the Mansion House Complex steve November 20th, 2008 The year was 1965. The Arch was finally under construction so those 40 city blocks that had been vacant for two decades were finally going to be active (somewhat) again. So the city decides to raze more blocks of the CDB (Central Business District). This time they take out the four city blocks bounded by the new I-70, Pine, 4th and Washington. The cross streets of Olive, Locust and St Charles are all consumed by the proje
Dog Behavior Training - Dog Aggression Toward Its Owners November 20th, 2008 Powered By CbproAds Dog Behavior Training - Dog Aggression Toward Its Owners A dog that growls at and/or bites its owner does so for some reason, even if the behavior appears to be “unreasonable” to the owner. If your dog displays aggressive behavior towards you, for the safety and welfare of you, your family and your dog, it’s important to find out why as quickly as possible. Call your vet right away and sched
-Good morning - it’s darn cold outside - I just let our dog in. Brrrrrrr! -Today’s weather forecast for our corner of the world is: Breezy. Increasing clouds. Isolated flurries. Highs 17 to 22. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph. Those strong winds will drive the “wind chill” down making those temperatures feel more like 5 degrees above zero today - not good nor enjoyable. -Mike Huckabee, the former Governor of Arkansas, and Republican presidential candidate appeared on The View Tuesday, where
Artist Michael Rakowitz came up with a clever way to camp out on an urban street, make your tent look like it’s a covered car! He writes: (P)LOT questions the occupation and dedication of public space and encourages reconsiderations of “legitimate” participation in city life. Contrary to the common procedure of using municipal parking spaces as storage surfaces for vehicles, (P)LOT proposes the rental of these parcels of land for alternative purposes. The acquisition of municipal permits an

The Cornish All Blacks, a League Two rugby team founded in 1948 in the post-War austerity years obtained matching kits by dying various coloured shirts to a uniform and easily standardized shade of black or by recycling air-raid curtains. To protect their IP, and to the ire of the Kiwi national squad, they have filed to trademark their name. Obviously they cannot get sole rights to use of the words Cornish, All, Black, Blacks or indeed “All Blacks”, but with qualifier of “Cornish All Blacks”
Natalie and Jennifer Campbell tend to do things together. Not that they were overly concerned about school bills, but through sheer fate — emphasize the sheer — they found a way to pay off their student loans to the University of Northern Colorado. They took their clothes off. The identical twins, natives of Greeley, appear as Misses December in next month’s issue of Playboy. The 22-year-olds say the issue, which hit newsstands Friday, has been an instant hit in Longmont, where the twins h

Interesting conference yesterday hosted by the Notting Hill Housing Association at City Hall. (No they didn't charge a fee for me to go.) The theme was "communities that work" - the problem of estates where most residents are on welfare. A range of councillors, council officers, housing association reps, property developers, academics, Quango reps and assorted other specialists were there. With a range of views. There was certainly no lazy consensus that social housing was a good thing and the
Fake Duck Blood Posted by Bill Jempty Published: November 20, 2008 - 6:46 AM The latest product scandal from China. Duck blood tofu is cubes of clotted duck blood. According to a recent report from Reminbao, the majority of duck blood tofu now served in Beijing restaurants is made from less expensive pig or buffalo blood. In addition, evidence has emerged that producers are adding formaldehyde to the duck blood. Reminbao.com reported that the law enforcement officials from Sanhe City in Heb
Food is H-O-T November 20th, 2008 by Cat As most of you already know, I’m a huge, huge fan of Bravo’s “Top Chef,” now in its fifth season. It’s one of the few reality TV shows — in the league with “Project Runway” — that showcase interesting, talented people competing for a chance to make their career dreams come true. And from the first season, when Harold Dieterle took the title of “Top Chef,” I realized something: food is sexy. I mean, Dieterle is on my short list of hunky guys. Not beca
