I finally got all the way through this double DVD set from Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. This massive one day concert took place in Chicago last July, which is the second get together of these guitar legends. This follows slowhand’s first guitar festival, which stretched over a three day weekend [...]
The phenomenon of Guitar Hero is unaccountable to most musicians. Why would anyone spend hours miming moves with a fake instrument when given similar time investment you could make music yourself, live, and with friends? Nonetheless, the game is the Christmas season's most highly anticipated music item. As for disappointing early sales reports for "World Tour," its just-released new edition, aren't sales down for everything, everywhere? Here's my flick at stimulating the music economy -- consume
In case you missed yesterday's Laonois post, you may be interested (perhaps even thrilled!) to know that you can hear Daniel Lanois today on Radio 2 Drive (3 p.m.-6 p.m.). Lanois will be performing a couple of songs as well as chatting with Rich -- and just to whet your appetite, here's a clip of that conversation: You can tune into the third hour of the programme to hear the rest. And note: Today Tom wraps up the Radio 2 Morning (6 a.m.-10 a.m.) question of the week: "What Music Can You

Thursday Morning Hike ~ just under 3 hours9 a.m.- Noon ~ Air Temp: upper 60's to about 71°It occurred to me that it's been way too freakin' long since I've been on a proper hike. I kinda sorta hike all the time, well I do sometimes, on my way back from running; I run out, hike back. That's not really on a true hiking trail, though. It's nice, it's a trail, but not a narrow footpath meant for hiking. So I had decided that this morning I'd head out for a proper hike on a proper hiking trail.
One of the most critically acclaimed guitarists and the youngest musician to be named in Rolling Stone’s list of the Top Hundred Guitarists of All Time, Derek Trucks has completed his much anticipated sixth studio album with The Derek Trucks Band, Already Free, available January 13, 2009. &&&
Relix has it: John Paul Jones, Coheed & Cambria, Roosevelt Collier and Audley Freed are among the latest additions to this year's expanded Christmas Jam . As previously announced, Warren Haynes Presents: The 20th Anniversary of Christmas Jam will take place on Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13 at Asheville, NC's Asheville Civic Center. Some details regarding the event’s schedule have been released, with four confirmed artists slated to perform on December 12: Allman Brothers B
The hardest working man in music, Warren Haynes, is back with the 20th year of his annual Christmas Jam. Though I’d pay a lot of money to go back in time and see all of the canadian tuxedos that people wore in 1988, this year looks like it could be a great event. This year’s X-Mas Jam will span two nights for the first time in its history and as always proceeds from the shows will go towards Habitat for Humanity, a great cause. The event will take place on December 12th and 13th down in Ashe
Today is the birthday of Susan Tedeschi. I did a post on her new album Back To The River. I just could not resit posting her bio and another video of one of her songs that I love. According to Wikipedia;Susan Tedeschi (pronounced te-DES-ki) (November 9, 1970 in Boston, Massachusetts) is an American blues and soul artist, who has risen to fame with multiple Grammy Award nominations, powerful singing voice, and her marriage to Derek Trucks of the Allman Brothers Band and The Derek Trucks Band. Barack Obama certainly has one very important thing going for him: he's not George W. Bush. The end of 43's reign of error isn't here just yet, but it seems a little more real after this week. It feels like we have at least a little more room to breathe than we did on Monday. So the only real theme I had in mind for tonight's post was to relax a bit and find some joyful noise. Found some. This is the Derek Trucks Band with about eight minutes of Joyful Noise. From the same show, this i

With her booming voice and blistering, bluesy guitar work, Susan Tedeschi seemed like she was on the verge of something big in the late '90s. Her albums "Just Won't Burn" in 1998 and "Wait for Me" in 2002 were gritty and soulful, and the Boston native looked ready to blossom into a latter-day Bonnie Raitt, not least because of her affecting cover of "Angel From Montgomery" on "Just Won't Burn." It never quite happened, though, as musical currents shifted away from Tedeschi's blues-rock sound,

We’d like to welcome longtime reader and commenter Frank Sturges into the fold to give us a local boy’s thoughts on the Xmas Jam lineup… The Warren Haynes Xmas Jam is a chance for North Carolina to remind the rest of the country that every winter it dominates the winter festival scene. Warren always brings a stellar group of musicians to the stage to jam all night long, take on some covers and participate in interesting collaborations. This year the Jam turns 20 (no more teenage angst) an

Guitarist Jimmy Herring recently released his debut solo album, titled Lifeboat. Although this is Herring’s first solo album, he is already well-known in the guitar community. He’s played with some great bands, including The Allman Brothers, Col. Bruce Hamptons’ Aquarium Rescue Unit, the Dead, and Phil Lesh and Friends, and he is now the lead guitarist for jam-band supergroup Widespread Panic. In addition to Herring on guitar, Lifeboat includes some great supporting musicians, including Jeff
Hi all! Released in 2008, David Sanborn’s album Here and Gone brings back an old school jazz feel reminiscent of Dave Brubeck and Charlie Parker. However, Sanborn doesn’t live in the past - with Eric Clapton and Joss Stone featured, this is a great mix of old and new. Image via Wikipedia Starting with the “St. Louis Blues“, Sanborn wails to old school sounds with a big band heart. He moves from there to “Brother Ray,” where his sax is backed by the guitar of Derek Trucks, whose slide style
