Happy Birthday Don Henley

One of my favorite drummers-slash-singers is celebrating a birthday. Don Henley is sixty-one years old today (July 22.) I’ve been an Eagles fan since their very first album in 1972. Their harmonies and the varied instrumentation used in the band really captured my ears. That may be the first time I [...]

The Eagles take the Long Road Out on tour

The Eagles really have had an amazing career. I’ve been a fan of the band ever since hearing their first album and soaring harmonies of Don Henley and Glenn Frey. Then they merged rock and roll with that cool southern California progressive country sound on their Desperado album, which is one of [...]

Best Selling Music Artists Of All Time

I was reading another one of the many stories about the Beatles music being available on iTunes, which turned about to be just another rumor. These are all over the internet but Sony music, who owns the licensing, denies any of these stories as true. At the end of this particular story on applesource, [...]

Grammys 50th is Solid Gold

Events like the Grammys are great learning moments. There’s so much more to most of these artists than their “hit songs.” Once you dig into their catalog and their roots, you find all kinds of things you may not have known before. But one thing’s for sure. This year’s [...]

The Eagles Desperado

Walking through the store today while my teenagers used all their gift cards they received for Christmas I picked up The Eagles Desperado CD off the budget bin.
What a great album this is. Recorded in 1973 when I was just a kid I must have played Mike’s copy a thousand times (when he wasn’t home, [...]

Look Who Turned 60 In 2007

Who says classic rock is dead?
2007 was a big year for classic rock band reunions, with some really big tours (like Genesis) and special shows (like Spinal Tap appearing at Live Earth and the recent Led Zeppelin benefit concert.)
Musicians, singers & songwriters who turned 60 this year:
Gregg Allman (Allman Brothers Band) Dec. 8

Can someone please tell Roger Goodell that the NFL is facing larger issues than misbehaving mascots and the usage of the words “Ref you suck”?

Wow that might be my longest title ever. The NFL is tons of image problems right now, from steroid usage, Spy-Gate, horrid officiating & Pac-Man Jones. Given all that Sheriff Goodell has deemed misbehaving mascots atop his priority list. His first target is Rowdy who is the Dallas Cowboys’ answer to Nebraska’s Big Red that doubles as a mascot. Tim MacMahon of the Dallas Morning News warns that Rowdy is about get his ass handed to him for of all things, doing his job which is to have fun

Eagles search for ways to save their season (AP)

Andy Reid gave his team an earful and Brian Dawkins spoke up after coaches left the room. These are desperate times for the Philadelphia Eagles, who are dangerously close to missing the playoffs for the third time in four years since going to the Super Bowl. “I just felt like I needed to say something to the guys and see if we can all get on the same page and get this thing rolling,” Dawkins said…

NFL Games ending with a tie surprised Donovan McNabb and some of his stupid Philadelphia Eagles teammates

NFL Games ending with a tie surprised Donovan McNabb and some of his stupid Philadelphia Eagles teammates By: Syndicate It’s shocking to find out that ten-year veterans like Donovan McNabb still don’t know some of the rules of the game that they play for a living. In case you missed it, Week 11 of the 2008-09 NFL football season gave the league its first tied game since 2002 when the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cincinnati Bengals played to a 13-13 tie at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio

Florida Redux In Minnesota: U.S. Senate Recount

Norm Coleman has (or at least had) the lead. Democrats are complaining that votes found in a trunk aren't being counted. ... And Al Franken never had a bigger stage. The U.S. Senate recount in Minnesota begins. Georgia On Everyone's Mind While Obama's legal eagles leverage Bill Clinton's privacy and finances, the former President is stumping for Democrat Jim Martin in that state's U.S. Senate runoff. Martin is trying to defeat Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss. The New York Times re

Finding the Lowest Premium for Physical Silver

If you’ve tried buying physical silver recently, then you are undoubtedly aware of the incredibly high premiums charged above market value. I wrote previously about the premiums for 100 ounce silver bars, which are traditionally a low premium method for acquiring silver. At the time of investigation, premiums were running from 40% to 50% above the market price of silver. Premiums for virtually all other methods of acquiring physical silver are also stubbornly high. American Silver Eagles, Cana

Spotlight On Benfica, Portugal's Most Successful Club

The famous 'Eagles' of Lisbon may no longer be golden, but their legend lives on. For our first feature on a top European football team we travel to Portugal's capital, Lisbon, and visit the country's most successful club, Benfica. Based in the Luz district, Sport Lisboa e Benfica is in fact a multi-sports club, but it is its football team that we turn to. Benfica was formed in 1904 and called the old Estadio da Luz (the Stadium...

Bengals place injured receiver Chatman on IR

The Bengals placed receiver Antonio Chatman on injured reserve, three days after he suffered a neck injury during a 13-13 tie with the Eagles.

Week 12 NFL Power Rankings

There’s just no way you don’t put the 10-0 Titans at the top of the NFL power rankings.  Did I mention they are 10-0? The Giants are scary good.  They keep winning and they keep doing it in convincing fashion.  This week New York is a 3 point favorite at Arizona. Carolina is 8-2.  They’ve won some close games, but that should give this team character down the home stretch. The Tampa Bay Bucs just keep on getting better.  NFC offenses are powerless against them. When the Jets beat the Patrio

Random thoughts a week before Thanksgiving

We are a week away from Turkey Day, or as Garfield calls it, "the Super Bowl of eating." It's a good time for my biannual Random Thoughts. 1. How many Cinci and Pittsburgh fans will be present on the NFL thread for the NFL Network's Thursday game? (I won't- Georgia Tech/Miami has more at stake) 2. Speaking of NFLN, am I the only one who hates these non-Sunday NFL games? For decades, I could watch Saturday NFL games on NBC, CBS, or FOX. Now, I need to use the internet, not the TV! (The o
