Bo Diddley 1928 - 2008

June 3rd, 2008
By Mike

A true icon of the rock and roll world has passed away. Bo Diddley was reported to have suffered from heart failure, and passed away at his home in Archer, Florida, at the age of 79.
His trademark guitar rhythms have influenced generations of rockers, notably The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds and The Animals. My favorite Bo songs are “Who Do You Love” and “I’m A Man.”

You don t exactly have to be a rock & roll historian to know that the 60 s rock sound that revolutionized popular music got much of its raunch, rawness and soulful edge from the neglected masters of American blues.
What many of today s rockers may have forgotten, however, is that Manchester-born singer-guitarist John Mayall was one of the leaders of that revolution. After four decades, he s still called the Father of British Blues for good reason. His band The Bluesbreakers provided fertile ground for the likes of Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, John McVie, and Jack Bruce, among other alumni. Too numerous to mention them all, but some favorites are Steve Winwood, Jeff Beck, Ray Charles, and Ginger Baker.

Tom Petty Super Bowl Halftime Show

January 9th, 2008
By Mike

Tom Petty is doing the Halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl. Let’s see, since 2000 we’ve seen and heard Aerosmith, ‘N Sync, Sting, Jessica Simpson, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones and Prince. The super bowl activities committee is on a roll.
And which songs do you think they will perform? What if they dedicated (and they “customized” their songs for each one of the teams that played the super bowl, and the losers of the playoff games?
Runnin’ Down A Dream” could be Runnin Down A Team
“I Won’t Back Down” could be I Won’t Get A Down
“You Don’t Know How It Feels” and “Refugee” could be dedications to the losing teams
“Don’t Do Me Like That” dedication from one team to another
“Free Fallin” could be “Foot Ballin”
“Mary Jane’s Last Dance” could be customized to just about any player’s name
You only get 3 or 4 songs during halftime, so they better be good. Might as well make it funny and have a laugh with 40 million of your closest friends. And make sure your wardrobe doesn’t malfunction, or they’ll be talking about ya!
