Seven Mary Three has just released their sixth album, titled Day&Nightdriving. It’s co-produced by Brian Paulson who has also worked with Wilco, Son Volt and Beck.
The album provides uncompromisingly honest reflections about reconciling a career in a rock group with home life, and balancing personal commitments to bandmates and those of family.

You probably heard of the financial crisis that affected the whole world. Of course, the whole crunch got the auto-market, too, and unless the US Congress won’t agree to hand some $25billion in soft loans to the big three (GM, Ford and Chrysler), rumors say that in early January, General Motors may become insolvent and as a consequence … shut down. The Big Three account for more than 10-percent of the American jobs so can you even imagine what will happen if they go down? Voices in the marke

In last week’s post, I mentioned in passing that a presentation at the 5th Annual Peak Oil and Community Solutions Conference at the beginning of the month had left me with hard questions about the Transition Town movement. A good fraction of the comments I received in response to that post centered on that one brief reference. This probably shouldn’t have surprised me; these days, the Transition Town movement has become one of the more popular responses to the emerging crisis of the industrial
'Chinese Democracy' (Interscope), the first album of original tracks from Guns N’ Roses since 1991, debuted last night on the band's MySpace page. Axl Rose-fronted band has already released two tracks off 'Chinese' to radio - the album's title track, as well as 'Better,' in the last few weeks. But last night was the first time the entire album was available for streaming - well, legally, at least. Album is due out Sunday, Nov. 23, and will be available exclusively at Best Buy. The Metamorphosis By Debbie Whiteaker A Woman’s Decision to go Cruising Over the years I’ve heard the same story time and again. A woman’s agonizing decision…to go on a cruising adventure with her husband or significant other or to stay in her nest where she can be available to her children, grandchildren, or elderly parents. A woman’s obligatory feelings toward her family are often much stronger than those of her male counterpart. It’s just born into most of us to be there and be available
The BlackBerry Storm. It feels like ages ago since we first broke news of this bad boy, but the release is finally right around the corner. Literally, it’s tomorrow! Need we say more? Heck yeah! We’ve got a pretty substantial review on the device and we’ve even taken the time to compare the Vodafone units to the Verizon units since we’ve got both in our office. First impressions? No way, you’re going to have to hit the jump for that. Just make sure you’ve got a couple Ritalins in your system
Is General Motors too big to fail? What about Ford and Chrysler? The answer is yes and no. Yes, because the auto industry is the manufacturing backbone of the US economy and the workers, material suppliers, dealers and associated businesses that would be hurt if the Big Three closed their doors would act as an anchor on our economy for years. No, for the plain fact that if your business is encumbered by unsustainable labor contracts and a corporate mindset that has not changed with the US auto
Sierra 117 When things start up, note the blue icon above the Arbiter's head. It is a good idea to follow him during the mission. Head forward and jump over the log. Continue forward, moving with your fellow marines, jumping up the ledges when necessary. You will have to jump a lot through this game. You'll soon be told that there are hostiles in the area. Checkpoint. As you head forward you'll soon spot a waterfall and some enemy ships (Phantoms) flying overhead. Checkpoi
At the request of the small group of think-tankers I was travelling with, General David McKiernan's headquarters has agreed to release an unclassified version of the ISAF Campaign plan specifically for posting on Small Wars Journal. Things I find particularly interesting in this plan include the upfront acknowledgement that this is a counterinsurgency (vice peacekeeping) campaign (obvious to us, but hugely important in the NATO context); the addition of "Shaping Operations" to the classic "Clear
Last November we launched the Simply Charlotte Mason community forum with the prayer that it would be a place of encouragement, grace, and help for all those using the Charlotte Mason method. We’re thrilled with the community that has grown over the past year! We’ve discussed topics from habits to narration to math to schedules to gardens, and so many of you have joined in. Those who read, those who only ask questions, and those who post answers are all part of the community that makes the fo
The Squad -- "Rubicon" A chapter of 'Absolved' by Mike Vanderboegh Disclaimer: This is a fictional work of precognitive history. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is strictly coincidental, as far as you know. Blow Fly: any of a large family of flies known for the habit of the larvae, or immature flies of, infesting animal carcasses. They are found worldwide, occurring nearly every place inhabited by people. Blow flies are slightly larger than true house flies, and the bodies of many a
Did you ever have one of those days when you think perhaps it wasn't really worth getting out of bed? I had one of those days today. The day started out okay. I was a little sleepy and was having a busy morning. The car belonging to The Man of the Place was still in the shop so I was drove him in to town. A very expensive turbo charger in his car broke on Monday. This caused his lovely blue BMW to emit billowing clouds of blue smoke. . So, I drive him in and he will collect his car later. Beca

A cover story I wrote for this month’s issue of Colorlines Magazine highlights what the Obama campaign can teach us the urgent necessity of combining offline (actual streets, communities) with online organizing. While we may or may not want to support Obama’s policies, we should study closely the epoch-making deployment of technology to advance political ends. Hope you like it. Tamara Finocchiaro, the owner of Pythian Castle, posted a very large update regarding their situation on her Facebook page. Since I know some of you reading this do not use Facebook, I’m going to paste her update at the bottom of this blog so you can see what has been happening. She has also announced that she is going run for Mayor. She stated that “After a year of trying to figure out the best way to bring about the change we need in the City of Springfield, I have decided to become more
How many times have I talked about spam? Well, let’s see. I talked about dealing with Russian spam. I talked about spam that seemed to be coming out of the wood works when I was talking about Compete Rank, and I talked about it a week ago when I talked about hating spam. I still hate spam, but now I’m seeing a different kind of spam, and if I’m seeing it, I know you’re seeing it also. I’m talking about a specialized spam that’s advertising software that will send out comment spam. Man, talk a
Germany 1 - England 2 (International Friendly, November 19, 2008) England took the lead in Berlin thanks to horrible goalkeeping from Rene Adler, the keeper flapping at a Downing corner which Matthew Upson eventually turned over the line. Germany’s equaliser came after a nightmare mis-communication between John Terry and Scott Carson. Neither player dealt with a simple forward ball and Patrick Helmes nipped in to put the ball between the keeper’s legs. The Three Lions won the match with six min
England took the lead in Berlin thanks to horrible goalkeeping from Rene Adler, the keeper flapping at a Downing corner which Matthew Upson eventually turned over the line. Argentina put together a wonderful flowing attack to score in Scotland early doors, Tevez broke down the right, his pass to Jonas Gutierrez was laid off to Maxi Rodriguez, and the Atletico man slotted home in McGregor’s near post. It was a terrible start for the Irish, conceding a header from Mariusz Lewandowski after just

Well here I am! The sweltering, tropical, humid jungle capital of Pucallpa. I just moved here from the coastal town of Trujillo three days ago and I’ll be starting the second and final stint as a KF6 fellow for Manuela Ramos. A former Kiva fellow hooked me up with a family here in the heart of the Amazon and I’m staying with them for the next couple of days. The father picked me up from the airport and ushered me (mercifully!) through the hoards of mototaxi drivers out to the main road wher
