By Nate Dorr What happens when the Silent Barn accidentally double-books? Skipped acts? Shortened sets? Bills forced to move or reschedule outright? Thankfully none of these things, practice has demonstrated. Last Saturday night, through rapid turnover on two stages, the Barn showed full DIY flexibility in somehow combining two unrelated bills, Voltron-like,
For over 30 years, the Dickson Street Bookshop has been sitting on the corner of Dickson Street and N. School, being awesome. With an estimated 100,000 used books lining the tall floor to ceiling shelves, (and sometimes, in tall stacks in available corners), the Dickson Street Bookshop is one of the best independent used book stores in the country. Visitors to the area are amazed at the incredible selection of used and out of print books, and the unique maze-like layout, the dim lighting and

Happy Thursday, everybody! Today on Review Revue we’re going to go in-depth and investigate KCMU’s reaction — over 8 years — to one of the world’s most prolific recording artists. No, not Elvis, silly! Not Henry Burr, either! It’s Jandek! “Who the eff is Jandek?” you might well ask. That is actually a surprisingly difficult question to answer, but for now let’s just say he’s a guy from Texas who has released close to 50 albums (well over 50 if you count live albums) over the past 30 years. And
photos by Lori Baily When Lee Ranaldo is playing with David Watson and Tony Buck, it's called Glacial. When Lee is playing with Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, and Steve Shelly, it's called Sonic Youth. If it's Lee and Alan Licht (and friends), then it would be Text of Light, and that's who played Knitting Factory in NYC earlier this month with Demons (Nate Young of Wolf Eyes) and Nancy Garcia..The Text of Light group was formed in 2001 with the idea to perform improvised music to the films of S

Not that I am a bank of great ideas but I remember standing on a chilly New York City street in early December 1980 and watching, along with a half dozen other people, and watching the "Ashes to Ashes" video

As you know, the last time "post-apocalyptic" and "voluptuous" were used in the same sentence was when the Bogue Chitto High School for the Fat mounted a stage version of Blade Runner. But today I received the covers of two upcoming movies by eminent pornographers Carlos Batts and Maria Beatty, who are releasing their Voluptuous Biker Babes and Post-Apocalyptic Cowgirls this week. Batts, whose muse is his wife, the zaftig and incendiary April Flores, and Beatty, whose noir lesbian fare is shot
I thought I’d try a bit of interaction today. Inspired by ATP vs The Fans. But first, some background. Running since 1999, All Tomorrow’s Parties isn’t like your average festival. There’s no sponsorship. No camp site. And no chance of any furore over Jay Z headlining. What you get instead is a great atmosphere, a chalet to sleep, wash and cook in and a line-up with a difference. And that, is the crucial part. Because there’s a real cohesiveness to the line-up. Rather than being a hodge-podge

Aggressive racing game, Motorstorm, was one of the most successful titles for the Playstation 3 in 2007 (selling over three million copies world wide). It was only natural then, that Sony Computer Entertainment would get a sequel out in 2008. Enter Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. The game recently hit shelves in the US at en

Like a week ago, Christopher posted an excellent entry on Jay-Z that I totally forgot to mention. I usually tease you with a notable paragraph from the piece, but this one's too good to do that to. Check it out:"Thurston Moore, in Punk:Attitude opined during the standard late 70's/80's NYC comparison between the adjacent development of punk and hip-hop as art/social movements that while the punk kids eschewed all material signifiers of wealth for myriad ideological reasons, hip-hop embraced and
