Todd Rundgren’s new CD is still in my car changer. After weeks of listening, it reminds me of so many different artists and musical styles. But Todd Rundgren has always been somewhat of a musical chameleon, and that’s what makes him so interesting and appealing. You never know what to expect of [...]
We’re aware that social networking is cool and is increasingly being used by musicians, artists and bands to spread the word about their music. MySpace, Facebook and YouTube get a a lot of press about it.
Now we’re reading about music artists creating their own social networking sites, so they have direct access to [...]

I’ll admit to some professional shpilkis over the meeting between Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and President-elect Barack Obama. After all, I published a piece on Election Day about how Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) was atop the short list to become Obama’s secretary of state — a list I had no idea Clinton was on. So I hope her candidacy for the job is a recent development. Even if it isn’t, there’s a natural discussion of the merits of both Kerry and Clinton. Gail Collins took a stab at adjudicati
Judy H Known as the Voice of the Civil Rights Movement, the 77-year-old singer Odetta is currently at a New York City hospital, due to kidney failure. Although she’s in critical condition, she still plans to perform Barack Obama’s Inauguration in January. Find out where to send your best wishes here. Local mainstay Sub Pop has lost the services of two bands. Earlier this week, word got around that Swede posters Loney Dear had jumped ship to Polyvinyl. Now comes news that Portland’s The The
Sleaze rockers the New York Dolls are going back to their debut as they've announced that they're getting back with rock lizard Todd Rundgren for their next LP, with Todd at the controls. David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain are to reunite with their original producer in January, to record the new, as-yet-untitled album. Once the LP is done, it's looking like a cert that they'll hit the road for a big ol' tour. Johansen sez: "We're really excited to be working with Todd again. We're hoping
The New York Dolls and legendary record producer Todd Rundgren have been reunited for the first time in 36 years.
...as Todd Rundgren in the current magazine said (who I found a far more erudite spokesman for the genre than Steve Howe!), nobody calls the LSO a heartless machine for having the audacity to display technique. I think some have rather rigid ideas of what rock 'should' be. Anyway, I hear relatively little jazz influence on prog; most of the big prog bands played more or less the same arrangements live as they did in the studio, I don't believe that to be the case with jazz which is more improvi

I’m 48 today so time for a short but self indulgent Birthday Post. 48 (that’s nearly 50!) used to be old. Look at old movies, say a 60’s grim up north kitchen sink drama, and people in their 40s are proper grown-ups and usually miserable and look like what would now pass for 60 (at least). Thank God for the extended adolescence we all have now. I’m going to do my best to grow old disgracefully and resist the urge to moan out loud about the crap the youth of today calls music because that gives m
The NEW YORK DOLLS and legendary record producer Todd Rundgren have been reunited for the first time in 36 years. Rundgren will produce the NEW YORK DOLLS‘ new album at his studio on the island of Kauai. Production is scheduled to start in January 2009. “We’re really excited to be working with Todd again,” says David Johansen. “We’re hoping to recapture the same magic on the forthcoming album.” The album, which is yet untitled, will be released on the Atco label through Warner Brothers. 2006 was a pretty busy year for the New York Dolls. Between the release of their guest-heavy, third full-length studio album, One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This, and the subsequent world tour, the Morrissey-approved sextet provided a road map for any legendary rock group looking to come back after nearly 15 years and take the music world by storm. Since then, David Johansen, Sylvain Sylvain and the rest of the Dolls have showed no signs of slowing down, most recently spending the s

Todd Rundgren To Produce Group Legendary glam-punks New York Dolls are set to re-unite with producer Todd Rundgren on their new album, reforming a partnership that spawned their 1973 debut album. The term "art rock" is often used interchangeably with "progressive rock", though the two genres are not identical.Progressive rock bands pushed "rock's technical and compositional boundaries" by go
I found this site when googling around for places that share info about music venues, concerts, etc. I hope this isn't considered SPAM? I wanted to let you know about a semi-private Todd gig that's happening in Philly on New Years Eve. By "semi-private" we mean it's limited to less than 300 fans and we hope to avoid advertising outside of places like this and Todd fan sites. This is for hardcore Todd fans and it will offer more than your common gig. We have sold a lot of spots but need about 1
I may be biased, but the most magical section of any craft store is the STICKER SECTION. The most arresting sight? HUGE, GIGANTIC ROLLS OF STICKERS. Oh, you know what I am talking about. Like the most magnificent quadruple-quadruple-quadruple-quadruple rolls of ultra-soft toilet paper, except they are MADE OUT OF GLOSSY PAPER. WITH LOTS OF STICKERS. AND PERFORATED SECTIONS. If I want EXACTLY 45.5 inches of Chubby Dinosaurs, I can make it happen. And who grants me the opportunity to make my ch
It is time to delve deep into Pops’ record collection again. Today having a day off all by myself means spinning the vinyl at incredible decibels to the point of shaking pictures off of the wall. Don’t tell the wife, though. Today I came up with something I like to refer to as the illegitimate child of punk and surfer music that we call new wave. The third best band out of the Boston area known as The Cars is one that helped define my musical tastes in my formative years. With the beautifully c
