Steve Winwood’s Nine Lives

April 29th, 2008
By Mike

Steve Winwood’s Nine Lives CD is finally available today! I’ve only heard a couple of tracks from it, because I bought the single from iTunes already. The “Dirty City” video is below, which features Eric Clapton on a smokin’ guitar solo.So I’m getting this CD today. It doesn’t matter that Winwood hasn’t released anything in years. He still sounds just as fresh and relevant today as yesterday. You know the shows Winwood recently played with Clapton at Madison Square Garden still sounds as good today as they did 30 years ago.

PLUS…Steve Winwood is touring with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Wow, these will be great shows for sure! You just can’t miss with a double bill like this. And Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers always deliver the goods onstage. The band have created so many great tunes over the last thirty years, it’s hard to imagine how they stay so creative.

Sounds like SuperBowl

February 4th, 2008
By Mike

It was the Tom Petty Halftime show, with all the hits the Heartbreakers can fit into a 12 minute segment. That turned out to be four songs, with a little editing by the band. “American Girl, I Won’t Back Down, Free Fallin’ and Runnin’ Down A Dream.”
Amazing work by those invisible stage hands, who setup an elaborate guitar shaped stage with special lighting, complete with big screen backgrounds and fireworks.
Jordin Sparks sang the National Anthem and did a fine job too. Alicia Keys provided the pregame entertainment.
I had read about a special 60 second PepsiCo commercial without any sound, to call attention to the deaf community and promote deaf culture awareness. I actually found a YouTube video about the making of this innovative advertisement, the first of it’s kind to air during the Super Bowl.

If there was one song the New York Giants could dedicate to the Patriots, I guess it would be I Won’t Back Down, because they didn’t.
