Yes Tag Page

FlashBack Friday with Yes

Yes is one of my favorite progressive rock bands. The Yes Album, my first and favorite of their LP’s in 1971, got more spins than a presidential candidate in an election year. The band’s virtuosity on “Yours Is No Disgrace,” “Starship Trooper” and “I’ve Seen All Good People” is simply amazing.

Fed Watch: Policy Adrift

Tim Duy lets loose: Policy Adrift, by Tim Duy: I understand the Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is considered something of a sacred cow, our one point of light in an uncertain world. An academic who cannot be questioned by other academics. A smart person who has mastered the Great Depression and therefore “knows” what to do, and is providing the leadership to do it. I am beginning to question all of these assumptions. I am hoping Bernanke can step forward and clarify the direction of p

What are we thankful for?

The answer to this is very obvious today!  FAMILY who loves us so much to ship a GIANT, HUGE, FEICHANG DA (that means REALLY BIG in Chinese) box to us.  THANK YOU to Grandpa Bill, Grandma Cindy, and Aunt Emily for their roles in this huge box of love! By the way, Emily, packing up the clothes I ordered from Old Navy in “Christmas boxes” so they looked like presents was a great way to ensure I didn’t have to pay any import tax! MUCH appreciated!  Love you!  And dude, I am SO reusing those boxes

On the Stereo: Anita O’Day’s Golden Era

On the Stereo: Anita O’Day’s Golden Era Anita O’Day was at the very top of the most thrilling jazz singers to ever walk the face of the earth, and I’m glad to see that she’s finally gotten her due with a documentary, Anita O’Day: The Life of a Jazz Singer. Though I love her singing, all I really know about Anita O’Day’s personal life is that she once claimed while drunk that her dog was her manager, usually barked condescending orders at whatever band with which she appeared, and had her uvula

Why Is Pattaya Such A Great Sailing Base?

Why Is Pattaya Such A Great Sailing Base? By Anuwong Leelasirinuwong In my dream, I’m gently floating. There’s a soft splashing noise, and then the sound of a small wave breaking on the beach. I open my eyes and experience a split second of pleasant confusion. Ah, yes.. now I remember: I’m on a sailing yacht. It’s early, 6 am. The sun has not come up yet, but the sky is beginning to lighten. It’s so peaceful. My friends are still sleeping, and there’s no one to be seen anywhere. Oh, there’s a

Super Sonic Figure Now Added to Unleashed Toy Line

So the US version of Sonic Unleashed is already out, apparently (for the Wii and PS2 it seems). Those lucky gits who decided to take it slow and start with the manual noticed an advertisement for the Werehog figure we spoke about a while ago. But wait, what’s this other circle about? Yes, looks like Super Sonic is also available as a collectible figure, thus increasing my British envy. The toys will supposedly be available this month, it’s worth checking out Sega America’s official website f

Eric Peters

“Eric Peters is cursed with an inability to settle or to sell out, afflicted with a need to follow his nose musically, lyrically, while spiritually he has falteringly tried his best to follow where God leads.” Andrew Peterson wrote those words about the Louisiana native for the Square Peg website of which both songwriters are a part and the sentiment is spot on. The ring of familiarity might come for some from the ’90s duo Ridgely yet others might know his strong folk work on Scarce or More T

Zero Milestones

In reply to Zero Mile: 1926: The milestones must have been in vogue in the 20's. A very similarly inscribed one can be found in front of the MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk, VA.

Where To Go Sailing This Spring - Some Old Favorites and a New Guest Dock

Where To Go Sailing This Spring - Some Old Favorites and a New Guest Dock By Drew Harper The winter doldrums are past, giving way to the fresh breeze and wildflower covered headlands that signals some of the best sailing this planet sees. The only new guest dock to sail to this year is oddly, here in San Francisco. As part of the rebuild of Piers 1 and 3, a guest dock was added, YES a guest dock. Purely for the use of transient vessels. Located on the North side of the final ferry landing a

AN OPEN LETTER TO SOCIALIST UNITY

By Mick Hall In a post to your otherwise excellent blog Socialist Unity, you claimed “the sad truth is that some BNP policies are broadly popular with large numbers of working class people,” By only singling out working class people to tar as BNP supporters, what are you saying, lower middle class people do not support some of the views the BNP propagates, or those nice English middle class people are not susceptible to Nazi ideology. You know the types who institutionalized racism in State

Microsoft LiveFX: Apps that look like a browser

Regardless of whether you’re in the Google camp or in the Microsoft camp, I think it’s a fair statement to say that these differences of viewpoint accurately reflect each company’s core strength and focus: Google wants the browser to grow to subsume the desktop; Microsoft wants the desktop to grow to subsume the cloud. This was the concluding paragraph in a post by Danny Thorpe of Microsoft (and formerly Google). His post is itself a rebuttal on Dare’s article: Live Framework (LiveFX), Is i

In New Movie Abhi Choose Aishwarya Except Rani

The buzz is that Bachchan Jr. refused a guest appearance in a Yash Raj film recently. Reportedly this has a lot to do with wifey Ash not wanting a Rani-Abhishek pairing on the screen again. Apparently Aditya Chopra had approached Abhishek Bachchan for a small but vital role in the Rani Mukerji-Shahid Kapur starrer ‘Haddipa’. This is the same movie inspired by a Hollywood flick in which Rani is masquerading as a man and sporting a moustache as well! It seems Aishwarya wasn’t at all happy with

Fundraising At Work

My company has a long-standing partnership with United Way, and I’ve been designated as an ambassador this year as we attempt to surpass our donation goal. I was asked if I would be an ambassador this year, and I said yes in order to broaden my horizons and try to help those in need. I’m a bit conflicted, however, because I will not be personally donating to United Way this year (or any other year unless something changes). My issue is not with United Way. They provide a fantastic service, hav

Smart money is against a college football playoff

Barack Obama isn't done campaigning -- for a college football playoff. On Sunday he discussed the topic with 60 Minutes (video above). He first brought it up during a halftime interview on Monday Night Football the day before he was elected. So will it actually happen? The Wiz of Odds gathered several reactions here, but nobody seems to be chanting "yes we can" quite yet. Chris Dufresne from the LA Times says no way, no how -- certainly not in Obama's first term. And if you're the type to

Kannagi Episode 7 - It’s a Sony, damn it!

Sony fanboy to the rescue. I don’t care if this show every gets back on track with the supposed “main story”. As long as they keep up the comedy I can watch these random side stories forever. P.S. Check out this Kannagi fan made video. Nico Nico Douga Youtube Summary Looks like your “textbooks” have been discovered, Jin. In terms of story and plot, not much has happened in this episode so I’m going to keep this one brief. The basic premise was that Jin had done something emotionally

10 Significant Signs why this will be the worst Recession since World War II.

10 Significant Signs why this will be the worst Recession since World War II. Posted by: admin in Real-estate news It is now official that the largest economies in the world are tipping into a synchronized recession.  Japan and the Eurozone both are now in recessions.  This is significant not only because these industrialized zones make up a large portion of the world’s GDP but they signify that systemically we are grouped together in the […] Related Posts: ■What Did I Tell You? Crazy Time (and yet, I feel very blessed!)

So I’m smack dab in the middle of several things - The biggest thing is that Undercover, my futuristic, menage, erotic romance will be releasing from Berkley Heat December 2. So I’m running toward the street date, trying not to freak that I haven’t done enough, trying not to check my amazon and barnes and noble rankings every three minutes and trying not to fall into the pit of “ONOES! WILL I SELL ANY BOOKS!” But when I get a bit freaked, I can happily check out some of my early reviews and kn

Being honored by the Boy Scouts was an honor!

I had the best luncheon last week…I was honored with the Boy Scout of the Year award. Yes that is right, I won the “Good Scout” award for 2008 for our area (along with two other distinguished individuals in which I was proud to be a part of). The Good Scout award is presented to those who are good role models for the community (it must have been the Bigelow Tea Community Challenge that caught their eye…I must not be the only one who is proud of how much we raised for local charities!).
