The Orb & David Gilmour Metallic Spheres
Metallic Spheres is the new album by The Orb, and features electric and pedal steel guitar sounds from David Gilmour.
Long time Pink Floyd fans will instantly recognize Gilmour’s guitar, which features prominently throughout Metallic Spheres.
It’s pretty exciting to see David Gilmour collaborating with Youth (aka Martin Glover,) who frequently works with The Orb, and also with Paul McCartney in The Fireman.
Youth and Alex Paterson created a remix as The Orb, and the project came together so well that it turned into a full length album. They invited David Gilmour to add some guitar sounds, and created a new sonic mix of styles that became the Metallic Spheres project.
The Orb have already performed a live remix of Metallic Spheres in Ibiza, and Alex Paterson appeared at a laser show in Los Angeles, in celebration of the US album release.
The Orb, built around mainstay Alex Paterson, formed in London in 1989 during the birth of the rave movement. Initially founded on a mutual love of Brian Eno and German electronics, The Orb at present operate with a flexible line-up of collaborators that includes producer/multi-instrumentalist Youth, well-known for his work with Paul McCartney as The Fireman.
The new album was just released by Sony/Columbia Records in the U.S.
