Ziggy Marley @ 40

Happy birthday to Ziggy Marley, son of reggae legend Bob Marley. Ziggy celebrates forty years of amazing history today.

His website notes…
“Reggae is sunshine music — it brings sunshine into life. It’s a music that creates a vibration that makes people come together and have a good time.”

My first memories of Ziggy (Marley, not Stardust) reach back to the late eighties when the Melody Makers, his first musical group along with his brother and sisters, released their third album ‘Conscious Party.’ “Tomorrow People” was the big single at that time. I recall Virgin and then Elektra records giving a big push to the group when I worked with those labels at Warner Elektra Atlantic Distribution. It’s always a joy to work with such happy positive music. Yeah those were good times.

His second solo album, ‘Love Is My Religion,’ won a Grammy award for Best Reggae Album. The album was released in 2006 on Tuff Gong Worldwide, which began as a small independent distribution company in the sixties by his father Bob Marley. There’s also a live DVD of the world tour that followed. Here’s the video of the title track “Love Is My Religion.”
